ZELENAJ SE, ZELENAJ ("Grow Green, Grass") is from "Moravian Duets", op. 32, no. 10 by Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) and edited by Anita Smisek, OP. A dialogue between lovers. The girl fearing that she is losing her love likens their relationship to the dry fir tree and the grass being cut, no longer able to grow and stay green. Yet, her love has confidence in their future and takes hope in seeing new growth taking place on the dry fir tree. Couples often faced difficulties over parental marriage arrangements, the fella having to go to the army for many years, or falling in love out of their social class. The symbolism of Green for growth, life and new hope plays a strong part in folk songs. Czech Pronunciation CD is available (AP-1289 CS). Czech pronunciation guide and English translation provided. Two-part Choir with Piano. Difficulty: M Duration: 3:35
